Looking for a TMS?Then you’re probably spoiled for choice.TMSreq helps you select the optimal system based on your requirements.

A better way to find the right translation memory system

TMSreq is aimed at companies wishing to purchase a translation memory system or replace their existing system. The goal is to make it easier for you to assess the TM systems available on the market – no matter what requirements you place on the system.

Gemino knows what’s important when choosing a TMS. And we share this knowledge with you. We have transferred our expertise about translation memory systems to a web application that you can use to compile the requirements for a TMS that are relevant to your company in a catalog.

A profile of the ideal TMS for you can be derived from the questions you answer in the tool. This then serves as the basis for an internal evaluation by your team or can be used as a specification for a tender to various TMS providers. Gemino TMSreq offers you this knowledge.

Our offering will be available from May 2024 – initially as part of a closed beta test phase.

TMSreq helps you to define all relevant decision criteria when evaluating possible TMS products and when formulating a tender.

The challenge
The choice of a translation memory system is a decision of strategic business importance. This is because it is not just about selecting software that meets certain current requirements. There is often a lack of staff, detailed specialist knowledge, or time to make an informed decision. That’s where TMSreq comes in. TMSreq helps you to define all relevant decision criteria when evaluating possible TMS products and when formulating a tender.

Impact
A TMS also has a major influence on aspects that go beyond the translation process: Processes in the company that are related to the actual translation are also affected. The ability to flexibly adapt future technological developments must be accounted for. And the TMS should be a sensible and easy-to-use addition to your supply chain of language service providers and linguists. Decision-making tool
We have compiled all the factors known to us that are relevant when choosing a TMS in a catalog of over 200 requirements and grouped them thematically in a web application for you. We derive an individual TMS profile for your company based on your answers. You receive our practical advice for an optimal assessment and evaluation of the possible TMS products as an Excel file.

TMSreq enables you to evaluate detailed individual requirements, from which a clear position can be derived for the final decision on the selection of a TMS:

All stakeholders are considered
The web application guides you through a checklist of detailed individual requirements that are relevant to you and your role in the company when choosing a TMS. No matter how many people are to be involved in the decision-making process: Each participant can evaluate the relevant requirements for their area.

Your individual TMS profile
Once all participants have clicked through our questions, a concrete requirements profile for your future TMS is created:
You will receive the requirements profile in the form of an Excel file including the weighting of the selected requirements.

Knowledge in black and white
The result of the evaluation is an Excel file with hard facts: all relevant requirements, weighted and with ready-made criteria for tenders. Based on this, you can create an initial shortlist of possible TMS solutions. You can then evaluate various systems in detail based on the requirements catalog or carry out a tender.

Once you have gone through the web application’s questions, you can assess and evaluate which features and options offered by a TMS are relevant to you. TMSreq represents a pure knowledge transfer:

Experience

Consulting expertise
We have become familiar with our clients’ diverse requirements for TM systems and have helped to design and optimize the appropriate processes. And we advised – in the definition of (core) requirements as well as in the selection process for translation memory systems.

Practical knowledge
Gemino knows the criteria our customers use to evaluate the translation memory systems currently available on the market. We understand the importance of the right mix of requirements for a TMS to deliver value to a company. And we can assess its pros and contras in everyday life.

And this is how TMSreq works

  • 1. Create a requirements catalog with TMSreq

  • 2. Select TMS providers for a shortlist

  • 3. Evaluate systems and select the optimal system

After the initial registration, you will receive access to our tool, which can be used by one or more participants in your team. This allows you to involve all stakeholders (people or roles) in your company who should take part in the decision-making process.

The participants are guided through a dynamic, web-based questionnaire that offers the appropriate tool requirements from our complete catalog for selection – adapted to the role and detailed knowledge of the respective user. All individual requirements are provided with explanations to help you select/rate the requirements.

After all participants have selected and rated the desired requirements, the system creates a customized catalog of requirements for you. This also contains the appropriate pre-formulated questions for all requirements for an external tender in the language of the TMS manufacturer.

Clarification of terms

TMS or TMS?

The acronym TMS has been used for some time for two different software concepts. On the one hand, for translation memory systems, i.e. systems that provide a translation environment using translation memories (translation databases). On the other hand, for translation management systems. These are systems that provide an environment for the management of translation processes. On the other hand, for translation management systems. These are systems that provide an environment for the management of translation processes.

Some currently available systems only support one of the two aforementioned functional areas, while others support both areas to varying degrees.

TMSreq supports companies in selecting the most suitable translation database system for their individual requirements and uses the acronym in the sense of a translation memory system.
To a limited extent, however, requirements from the field of translation process management are also taken into account.
